The OJ 287 colors during a multiwavelength campaign

چکیده
In 2005 the blazar OJ 287 exhibited an interesting variable behavior in the optical band. An optical outburst was observed in the period Oct.-Nov. 2005, and two XMM-Newton X-ray observations were performed in correspondence with two active optical states of the source (an intermediate flare and such claimed outburst). These satellite pointings triggered and invited observations by several radio, mm, near-IR, and optical ground-based observatories. During an intensive WEBT campaign coordinated with the satellite observations, and longer-term monitoring observations, a rather good set of multi-band optical and near-IR photometric data was collected. Such multicolor data of OJ 287 are briefly introduced.

We present the results of our optical monitoring of the BL Lacertae object OJ 287 during the first half of 2005. The source did not show large-amplitude variations during this period and was in a relatively quiescent state. A possible period of 40 days was derived from its light curves in three BATC wavebands. A bluer-when-brighter chromatism was discovered, which is different from the extremel...

Hubble Space Telescope WFPC-2 I-band (F814W) images of the BL Lacertae object OJ 287 and the surrounding field are presented. We find evidence of associated extended nebulosity near OJ 287, as well as a small nebulosity to the West, which may be spatially coincident with the position of previously observed radio emission. The brightness of a host galaxy is difficult to determine due to the brig...
متن کاملThe multi–spectral–range behavior of OJ 287 in 2005–2010
The BL Lac object OJ 287 is well known to exhibit quasi-periodic optical double outbursts every ∼12 years, the latest reported between 2005 and 2008. We have been monitoring the source monthly at 43 GHz (VLBA imaging), 86 GHz (IRAM 30m), and optical frequencies, including polarimetry, since 2006. This program is supported by parallel monitoring observations at several other spectral ranges, and...

The active galactic nucleus PG 1553+113 was observed by the MAGIC telescope in July 2006 during a multiwavelength campaign, in which telescopes in the optical, X-ray, and very high energies participated. Although the MAGIC data were affected by strong atmospheric absorption (calima), they were analyzed after applying a correction. In 8.5 h, a signal was detected with a significance of 5.0σ. The...
